Mongolia is a vast Asian country with just over 3.5 million people, making it one of the least densely populated places on Earth. Its landscape is dominated by endless steppes, with taiga forests in the north and the Gobi Desert stretching across the south. Once the heart of Genghis Khan’s empire, the largest in history, Mongolia today attracts those seeking adventure. Its raw nature and limited infrastructure feel like a journey back in time. Alena from Slovakia has called Mongolia home for over 40 years. She lives between the capital, Ulaanbaatar, and the countryside, where her husband is from, and still guides Czech and Slovak travellers. We begin in Ulaanbaatar, the world’s coldest capital, exploring its bustling market. We’ll taste roasted sheep’s head and warm milk vodka, ride into the степpe for fresh kumis, and finish with a traditional хорхог prepared on Alena’s ranch.
