Minami-Boso: At a Quiet Pier 30 Min.

Overview

On a sandy beach in Minami-Boso, Chiba, there is a rather unusual pier. It juts out 160 meters straight into Tokyo Bay with nothing around it. It was originally built in the Taisho era (1912-1926) for landing fish, but the fishing port was relocated about 50 years ago and the pier's role ended. Now it has become a hidden and popular spot. Some locals come here every day to walk their dogs, and a group of three visited on a farewell trip with a colleague who was leaving his workplace. Some couples have moved to the area because they like it so much. The mysterious pier attracts people. What are they thinking as they gaze out to sea?
